CHIROPRACTIC REHABILITATION FAQS
Here at Proctor Chiropractic, we treat patients from all over the Tacoma area. Many of you have questions, so we would like to take this opportunity to address some of the most common ones:
Will Cracking My Back Really Change My Injury?
We are frequently asked if “back cracking” and “chiropractic adjustment” is going to make a major impact to the recovery time and pain level. There are two parts to that answer:
Chiropractors do more than just “crack backs” there are many therapies that may be combined for best results, including massage therapy, spinal decompression, stretching techniques and rehabilitative stretching, along with spinal adjustments.
Anything that helps get the blood flow to the injury and reduces the inflammation will lessen the pain and improve the recovery time. Just like you ice an injury, there are many other manipulations that should be applied to the soft tissue to help the area heal properly. Pain medication (even the anti-inflammatory pain killers) will only mask the pain and slow the recovery process.
When Will I be Able to Get Back to Normal Life?
The level of your injury, the amount of time it’s already gone without treatment, your fitness level and the meaning of what “normal” is to you will all greatly depend on your individual case. Our chiropractors will see you, assess your injury and help you come up with a plan for getting back to the way things used to be – or better!
I’m Injured – Now What?
Our patients often wonder what their first steps should be following injury. Of course, any life-threatening or severe injury should first be seen by an emergency medical team. Once you have had the initial emergency care needed, we encourage you to schedule a trip to Proctor Chiropractic to help with rehabilitation, healing and preventing secondary injuries from occurring. For minor injuries, like sprained ankles or pulled muscles, we encourage icing and visiting our chiropractors for treatment and pain relief.
My Injury is Old, But Still Bothers Me – Can You Help?
We highly encourage patients to see us right after the initial injury (even if no pain or discomfort is felt) because it is easiest to treat and diagnose at an early stage. However, we do often see old back injuries, knee injuries, shoulder injuries and more that have simply never healed correctly and continue to cause pain. We can help break up the scar tissue and align the body to improve healing moving forward, reducing the pain felt by a lack of mobility and inflammation.
Will My Insurance Cover the Chiropractic Care?
If you are not sure what your insurance covers, we can help you check and find a comprehensive coverage overview for what your treatment would cost you out-of-pocket.
